A Real Friend

Earlier tonight I watched "The Soloist" with Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. It was an awesome movie, a true life story of Nathaniel Ayers (Jamie Foxx) who was a former cello prodigy, that studied at Julliard for 2years before having to drop out due to schizophrenic episodes. He became homeless and was living on the streets of LA when he met Mr. Lopez (Robert Downey Jr.) a reporter with the LA Times. Mr. Lopez and Nataniel developed a relationship in which Mr. Lopez tried to help Nathaniel get off the streets and have the opportunity to play his music again.

While Mr. Lopez was successful in changing some aspects of Nathaniel's life, he couldn't do anything for his mental condition. Nathaniel did not want to be on medication or have to live in an institution. Mr. Lopez tried all he knew to do until Nathaniel just exploded on him. As the movie progressed Mr. Lopez realized that Nathaniel just needed a freind, and that sometimes being a friend means that you just have to be there, and not try and change people's lives to fit into what makes you comfortable. Sometimes you just have to accept people for who they are and where they are in life. It's not always an easy thing to do, because when you love someone you want what's best for them.

We can all learn a lesson about freindship from this movie. What I learned was that: A Real Friend Loves At All Times; That sometimes God puts us in situations not to change people, but to change us. That love should be unconditional, not based on whether or not people are living up to our standards. We choose whether or not to live in someone elses world, so when we choose to live there, we shouldn't try and make it just like ours.

So love your friends for who they are right now, and pray that they become all that God has created them to be.

Be Blessed Today,

Alecia (aka - Destahnee)
